I’m a writer and a Registered Nurse who has worked in reproductive health for nearly a decade as a doula, nurse, and advocate for abortion access.
The Art & Science of Nursing
Just before graduating from nursing school in 2014, our professors reminded us that nursing is both an art and a science. I’ve found this lesson to be true and, as a person with both a creative and analytical mind, nursing has been a blessing for me.
This duality has been apparent in my life in other ways as well: while I love caring for my patients, I also value my time spent at my laptop, writing and creating content for brands and health care organizations.
Abortion Advocacy
Over the last decade, hundreds of antichoice laws have been enacted and independent abortion clinics have been forced to close at record numbers. Many states today are on the brink of losing their last abortion clinic and over a dozen states have complete abortion bans.
As an abortion advocate, I have sought to normalize abortion through various projects including this photographic series for Advocates For Youth and as a guest on the And Yet Podcast for their episode “Permission to Grieve Your Abortion.” I’ve also developed written content for Hey Jane, a groundbreaking telehealth abortion service that seeks to make medication abortion more accessible.
Along with comedian and writer Molly Gaebe, I’ve also written and created, Darling, a dark comedy about the last remaining abortion clinic in the fictional town of the same name. This project was a 2020 winner of Yes and Laughter Lab’s competitive incubation program. You can find more on this project here.
